Certitude

Imagine a world in which everything is already determined. The future is easily predictable, like how the number comes after one and how the next letter after A is B. Everyone lives a life where all is determined, they live very secure lives with no risk or chance and go about their daily lives knowing everything that is to happen.

A little boy sits by his bedroom window waiting for a chickadee to fly over and land on a nearby branch, he doesn’t know how it feels to be caught in a unique moment.

The boy doesn’t know how it feels to wonder because he already knows what’s about to happen moments before. For some life is peaceful, they feel comfort in knowing that all is out of their hands, they feel that safe knowing that they won’t have to make hard decisions.

Self-discovery is impossible, the people of this world already know who they are about to be 20 years from now. Children already know that they are bound to be bakers, artists, scientists or writers; They live knowing that there is no need to put extra effort into anything that they don’t need.

What is life without uncertainty? How do we live knowing that what’s going to happen next? A world of certainty and predetermined futures is a world without wonder or excitement.
The exhilaration of seeing your first love simply doesn’t exist because you already know where the relationship would go in the future. An adventurer climbs mount Everest already knowing how it would feel like when he stares out over the aging landscape of the earth.
The people of the world of certainty know they can’t ever dream, a woman who is determined to be a writer knows she can’t ever follow her dreams and become a scientist and another woman whos been determined to become a scientist cant ever follow her dreams to become a writer.
It is easy to say that we’d all like to see where we all are years from now, how we’d love to see what person we have become in the future so we can have the comfort in knowing, but I think some things are best left to be discovered when they come around to us. The best moments in life are when we discover new things, experience what’s around us and discover who we are by ourselves.
Life is scary, that’s never going to change. It is ok to be afraid or uncertain because no matter who you are and what you will be or how much money you’ll have nobody can say that they are one hundred percent certain of what’ll happen. Its best to let us determine our own futures; to grow our own seeds and cultivate them, Ask yourself what you really want deep within and do it, take the chances you think are worth it because that is a life worth living.
Before I end this long and sappy thought out of my head id like to address this one last thing: When you feel love for others like family or friends, tell them. Tell them about what you’re feeling and take the time to tell them that they’ve been on your mind.

  1. Michael,

First of all, you are a liar; you told me that your writing is bad but honestly this is very good. it is beautifully philosophical and I found that it brought this really chill environment. You have made some really beautiful points in this piece while wrapping them in very poetic words.

For improvement; I would suggest to space you paragraphs out a bit more as it looks very chunky and it may dissuade people from reading it when they really should be.

    Sincerely,
    Emily

    1. Hey Emily,

I’m so very glad you got a sense of a chill environment and I hope you got a good message out of what I wrote. I do see now how my writing can scare people off due to the size, I’ll make sure I correct this in future works.

      sincerely,
      Michael
